Couples Counselling
What is the difference between individual counselling and couples work?
With individual counselling, the focus is consistently on the individual and his/her/their experience.
With couples work, it is the relationship that is being counselled, not the individual. Couples work is not individual work for two people but is about understanding how the behaviour of each affects the other.
We look at the current dynamic between the individuals, the extent to which the past is impacting on the present and then we go on to make consistent small changes in behaviour to improve the relationship.
With this understanding, couples can then choose to develop a more rewarding relationship, or can understand why they need to part, as amicably as possible.
